In response to your question about nose rings... There is no 'gay' or 'straight' side for nose rings. Either side is accepted by both communities. Personally, I chose to pierce my nose on the Left, which is symbolic to me because I am left-handed. Many women of India choose the left side as well. Mostly all of the girls I know today have chosen the right nostril for their nose ring.

In the past, a single stud (diamond perhaps) in the Left earlobe was a so-called symbol for gay men. These days, most of those stereo types have been demolished.

Thank you for your interest in Body Rings! How did you hear about us?

The most recommended piercing for tongues is the basic 'barbell through the middle' (vertical) ...your piercer will determine the EXACT placement of the hole. The hole may be slightly off centre (due to your tongue web, veins or mouth structure...)

There is no over all 'best' piercing. Every body is so different that there is no way of determining who for sure will or won't reject any given piercing. For many people, the easiest piercing to care for is the ear lobe piercing.

A: Hi!

No problem about the wait! ;) FYI tho, it may be a good idea to place your order soon, just so that you can have the jewels in time for your sis' bday. If you are sending a personal cheque, the wait time is greater...

There is some info on the Body Rings site regarding ear lobe piercing care. Lobes are among the fastest healing piercings. Go to http://bodyrings.netfirms.com and scroll down to FUNDAMENTALS on the left menu... you can select which information you want from there. Should you have more questions please feel free to ask. You can find a wide variety of information on other websites as well. Maybe you don't to tell your step-daughter, but a minor infection really isn't a problem with ear lobe piercing, but is always of course something to be avoided.

Be 100% certain that she only EVER wears steel, gold or titanium in her holes until they are entirely finished healing and no more sensitivity remains. If at all, during ANY time, after the healing process, her ears become sensitive or develop cysts (small ball inside, around the hole) she needs to wear steel, gold or titanium again for a few weeks. If no sensitivity occurs, sterling silver maybe a wearing option. Avoid small gauge (thin) earrings always; the holes will shrink and the likelihood of tearing is greatly increased.

She will need your help with taking care of her ears. Cleaning at least 2x a day is important and never use peroxide or alcohol. PLEASE go to a piercing studio, not a mall shop..NO GUNS PLEASE! The guns literally rip out a piece of flesh, as where needles push the flesh aside... Small (diameter) hoops (captive or circular bead rings) should be best, assuming she is an active girl, and incase of swelling. 18 or 16 gauge will likely be the suggested size (thickness.) If you are at a reputable studio, you will be provided with written information (upon request) as well as a run down of what to do. FYI, you will have to sign a waiver, and Dad may have to be present, if you don't have the same last name.

I had my nose pierced 6 months ago and it has never healed properly. I just got a proper nose stud made of surgical steel which has helped my piercing to heal a bit, but it still has not completed healed. Any suggestions on what to do about this? I use Bactine to clean it twice a day but it still hurts. Please help!

A: Hi Elizabeth!

The nose can take 6-12 months to heal. Please be patient, noses are thick! Also note that not all of us are designed to be able to have any piercing we choose. Evaluate your lifestyle and nose structure, any causes of irritation?

#1 Stop using bactine! Use warm Epsom-salt soaks (on a cloth or paper towel) Do so every day, 2-3 times (less if it gets too dried out.)

#2 Do not touch your piercing unless you are cleaning it.

#3 Rotate and de-crust the piercing in the shower or during cleaning.

#4 The nose is different than an ear piercing, please treat it differently. NEVER use sterling silver jewels or nose PINS.

A lot of people ask about the pain of piercing, below (in blue) you will find a generic answer to your question. This information pertains to all piercings.

Piercings take only a few seconds (excluding prep time) -providing the person getting pierced is calm, well behaved and prepared. I believe that if you are overly scared of the pain of getting a piercing, it means you aren't ready for it. I took a friend to get his tongue pierced and he nearly fainted moments after. I STRONGLY suggest you do a ton of online research. Be aware of aftercare challenges and know what to do if swelling lasts too long or if you develop a reaction.

Thanks for your question. How a piercing feels to each person is different. Some times it depends on your general tolerance for pain, sometimes it depends on how sensitive that particular body part is for you. With 23 piercings, I find that of all my extra holes, the ones I wanted the most, hurt the least (during the piercing process.) It is important to be sure about your potential endeavor.

From personal experience I will say that cartilage piercings are slightly less painful than navel piercings. Both take an unexpectedly long period of time to heal and a long healing process means you can expect to encounter long term discomfort if not pain. The hardest pinch in the world is nearly the same sensation as getting a piercing. How sensitive are you to sharp pinches?

The pain of getting a piercing is the least of a piercee’s worries. Proper placement, properly fitted and high quality jewelry, after care and long term care are the most important ‘details’ when you have or are thinking about getting a new piercing. Sometimes the healing time lasts longer that you would expect

It is my greatest suggestion that you do some online research before getting any piercings. –and be sure to choose a clean shop with one or more experienced piercers. Always ask questions! J

Thanks for your question. Janet was actually wearing a Nipple Shield... Which is a large ring or cover that literally covers the majority of the entire nipple/areola.

We do not currently carry this type of stock, as its not requested very often and tend to run as an expensive item.

I got my ears pierced about a year ago. But had trouble as one of the training earrngs got imbedded into the Ear. My Beutician got it out and I just let them close back in. I would like to get them pieced again so I can wear pierced earrings.

Thanks for the note! ...honestly, it is no wonder you had trouble! Let me outline for you what you need to do differently...

1. Never get pierced with a piercing gun or studs!

Why? -Guns are not sterile and the studs do not allow for swelling after the piercing (hence the healing over that you experienced) Guns cause trauma to the ear by literally punching a hold out of your ear by ramming the stud through.

2. Go to a professional piercing shop. It may cost you a few more bucks...but it is worth it! They will pierce you using fully sterile equipment, gloves and will use a hollow disposable needle. They will insert steel circular or curved barbells (the gauge is your choice) which allow for any swelling you may encounter.

You will also be left with all sorts of after care instructions and a phone number to call if you have any problems.

3. NEVER use alcohol or peroxide on a new piercing! Both destroy newly forming tissue. Try Epsom salt soaks or compress and mild, unscented soap in the shower.

Any more questions? Some days I have great fear for the horror stories of piercing...too many people get and create holes without the know how! I'm very glad you are asking!!! Any follow-up is welcome! We can also help you choose jewelry in the future.

*HSF the last place I went to get to get a new tongue ring in Oakville ( may I add there is only two places you can get these items) they wanted 60 dollars and the wayyyyy cool store* HAHAHAHA had a limited selection.
